The right partner handles everything from crew hiring and training to maintenance oversight, charter revenue, and regulatory compliance. The wrong one costs you money, reliability, and peace of mind.
QUESTIONS TO ASK A MANAGEMENT COMPANY BEFORE SIGNING A CONTRACT
How many aircraft do you currently manage and what types: A company managing 200 aircraft of various types operates very differently from one managing 20 jets of the type you own. Ask specifically how many of your aircraft type they manage and where those aircraft are based.
Who employs my crew and what are the benefits: Some management companies employ crew directly while others use contractor arrangements. Understand exactly who is responsible for crew payroll, benefits, training, and recurrent requirements.
How do you handle charter revenue and how is it distributed: If you plan to place your aircraft on a charter certificate, understand exactly how charter revenue is calculated, what fees are deducted, and how frequently you receive statements and payments. Get this in writing before signing anything.
What does your management fee cover and what is billed separately: Management fees vary widely and so does what they include. Build a complete cost model before comparing quotes.
Who is my primary point of contact and how accessible are they: You should have a dedicated account manager who knows your aircraft and your preferences. Ask how many accounts that person manages and what their average response time is for owner inquiries.
How do you handle maintenance decisions and who authorizes work: Understand the approval process for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. At what dollar threshold do they contact you for authorization?
What does your safety management system look like: A professional management company operates a formal safety management system. Ask to see their safety record and whether they hold any third party safety certifications such as IS-BAO or ARGUS Platinum.
What are the contract terms and exit provisions: Management contracts typically run one to three years. Understand the termination provisions, notice periods, and any fees associated with early termination.
